Formed in 1988 by Neal Bolton, Blue Ridge Services is a professional
consulting firm specializing in solid waste landfill operations and planning. Our firm's strength, based in large part on Mr. Bolton's 30 year background in construction and landfills. His construction expertise includes work in excavating, grading, paving, and underground projects.

As a consulting company, Blue Ridge Services works hard to provide clients with quality, cost-effective consulting and engineering services. Since 1988, we have had the in-house capability to perform computerized terrain and volume calculations which allows us to examine many potential landfill surface configurations before choosing the best one. This system, along with our use of CADD, allows us to provide efficient and economical landfill consulting services for our clients. We have prepared operations plans for numerous landfills ranging in size from less than 10 tpd to over 6,000 tpd. Our landfill operations plans are developed to be in compliance with all applicable environmental and governmental regulations but are presented with a real world, practical approach.

Blue Ridge Services has developed several comprehensive landfill operations and transfer station training programs. These programs provide operational training and a review of environmental considerations for site managers, supervisors, equipment operators and laborers. The training programs address safety, operations, equipment maintenance, costs and emergency response procedures. The thrust of these training programs has been to streamline overall operations and make them more cost effective. Our training has benefited over 100 solid waste managers, equipment operators and laborers at several sites.

Blue Ridge Services has also designed and performed various testing procedures for evaluating landfill equipment and operating methods including soil use minimization studies, compaction tests, settlement measurement, cover soil add-mixtures and productivity analysis. Many of these landfill tests were done in cooperation with Caterpillar, Ingersoll-Rand, Caron Compactor Company and Waste Management, Inc.

Blue Ridge Services has provided consulting services for dozens of states and Canada. Our projects cover a wide geographic and climatic range. Our clients represent both private and municipal operations, ranging from rural landfills (<10 tons/day) to urban landfills (>20,000 tons/day).
